Male drawing challenge, portrait 1, attempt 2: James Dean

Male drawing challenge, portrait 1, attempt 2: James Dean

Male drawing challenge,  portrait 1, attempt 1: James Dean

I’ve created a challenge for myself this summer because one of my strongest weaknesses and critiques is drawing males. I hardly ever do. I know how to draw people but struggle more with males and I also struggle to fit them into my aesthetic style. So I came up with this project. I’m going to draw ten portraits in my sketchbook this summer, each of them being males, either that I find attractive or aesthetically pleasing towards my artwork. I’ll probably draw each portrait twice, because practice makes perfect and I usually hate how my first attempt turns out, so there will be a total of twenty portraits. I will post each of them here, and hopefully by the end of this experiment have a better understanding of the male face and maybe even be capable of creating my own and putting them into my artwork.

The beginning stages of my rat. It’s finished now, I just have to take some pictures. This was for my 3D Design class also but it didn’t fit the requirements for the project. It was supposed to be anthropomorphic, but I liked it too much like this to put any clothing/accessories on it.

Planar project I did for my 3D Design class. I hated this at first, it was ugly and messy but ended up loving it at the end, it’s so cute/quirky. It reminds me of that cartoon, Two Angry Beavers, or something from Dr. Seuss.

I’m so glad you messaged me, your art is extraordinary. Your mind is beautiful and the amount of soul you put into your work seeps through every piece. Never give up, and most certainly never let anyone put you down!

Thank you so much, I’m so gracious for the kind things that you’ve said about my artwork. It really means so much to me, thank you.

Small clay armatures covered with green candle wax I did in my 3D design class. I’m not very proud of these at all though I did put a lot of work into them. I ended up donating them because I didn’t have the heart to throw them away.

If it looks like deja vu that’s because it is. At the time of creating this I felt like painting but not like drawing and was emptied of any original ideas so I’m using this as sort of a practice painting. Shanice
